On Friday, Burnley will face Manchester City as they seek to continue their dominance under Pep Guardiola and win back three Premier League trebles in 2023-24. Can Pep’s side continue their dominance?
Erling Haaland’s deadly finishing and intelligent mobility makes him a serious threat to any defense, and is in contention for another consecutive European Golden Shoe award. So far this campaign he has scored three times.
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s 2016 Treble winners have long been pre-season favourites since his arrival, and appear set to remain so this time around. Boasting an abundance of talent with Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland among their ranks they should remain ahead of their competition this time round.
City excelled in our 10,000 season simulations by coming out victorious in 90.2%, more than double what their nearest rival, Manchester United, achieved at 27.2%.
Arsenal should present formidable competition this year after spending over PS100 million on transfers. They boast an excellent stadium and stable atmosphere; will benefit from Aaron Ramsey’s return; have also strengthened their squad with Sandro Tonali and Yankuba Minteh signings; they hope for better Champions League qualifying results than last season, when they missed out on knockout stage qualification;

Manchester United
Manchester City improved under Erik ten Hag, with consistent results that warranted serious title challenger status. Unfortunately, however, according to Opta’s supercomputer simulations they only finished second in 1.7% of simulations which is well short of their goal of becoming title challengers.
Arsenal have improved from 11/2 to 4/1 following a strong start, winning at home against Chelsea and holding Liverpool to a draw at Anfield. Mikel Arteta should find it easier this season but they likely will not contend for top prize.
Liverpool have fallen from 4/1 to 7/2 odds after conceding two late goals against Tottenham on Wednesday, forfeiting an opportunity to finish in the top four and claim a Champions League place. Jurgen Klopp still has time to regain their spot against an elite group including Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton though.
Tottenham
The Big Six may be on their way out. Teams like Villa, Newcastle and Brighton would need multiple strong seasons combined with some bad ones in order to break into the top four.
Manchester City are currently the odds-on favorite to retain their crown, thanks to Pep Guardiola’s debilitatingly obsessive carrot-and-stick tactics that keep his team hungry and competitive – after all, he is considered the greatest manager worldwide!
Everton have started the season off poorly with only four points from seven matches under Sean Dyche so far and it seems unlikely they’ll turn things around quickly. It may be worth keeping an eye on new signing Erling Haaland though; his goalscoring record in the league speaks for itself and could set more records this term.
Brighton
Roberto De Zerbi has successfully rebuilt Brighton’s attacking system despite losing Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, pivoting around Solly March and Pascal Gross as central midfield outlets he uses through the centre of the pitch for distribution – leading them to attack through this route more frequently (30%) than any other side in Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal led the Premier League for 248 days last season but fell away at the final stages to be overtaken by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Since then, however, they have invested wisely this summer; particularly in Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.
Bookmakers’ odds clearly favor Manchester City over other teams for 2023-24 and it stands to reason. City dominated Opta supercomputer simulations of their season, so it would not be unreasonable for them to win again.

Chelsea
After an amazing record-setting campaign, Manchester City are poised to defend their crown in 2023-24 Premier League competition. Although Arsenal provided strong competition at times during last season, Pep Guardiola’s side easily dismantled their competition to claim yet another consecutive league crown.
Arsenal were impressive throughout most of the season, yet couldn’t sustain an ongoing title challenge. This summer has brought more depth and quality with Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Yankuba Minteh joining them in Gunners ranks.
Chelsea endured an unsuccessful season under previous boss Mauricio Pochettino but have seen their fortunes improve under Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. West Londoners Chelsea are 5/4 to make it into the top four this term and have already invested in Kai Havertz, N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy and Joao Felix amongst other players.
